Comparison
Change orders: how the tools compare
Most field-service tools handle a mid-job change as a second estimate that the customer approves and the office copies onto the job. A few construction tools have a real change-order object, with the approval inside a portal the customer logs in to. Only some write the approved change back to the job on their own.
The table below puts twelve tools side by side, cell by cell, from each tool's own public page. Where a page does not say, the cell says so. No prices are compared; none of the pages read carries one.
Coming to the Jobber App Marketplace.
The comparison
Every cell comes from the tool's own public page, read on 2026-09-22 and listed under Sources. "Not stated on their page" means exactly that: the page does not say, and nothing was inferred. The table scrolls sideways on a phone.
| Tool | Has a change-order object? | Who starts it | How the customer approves | Signature | Writes back to the job? | Spanish for the homeowner? | Homeowner account needed? |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Jobber (built in) | No. The help center has no change-order article; the academy page offers a paper template. | Office or field: a quote, from the + menu in the app. | In client hub, from an emailed or texted link; or in person on the tech's device. | Yes: draw or type a name. | No. An approved quote is converted to a job by hand. Editing an approved quote removes the signature. | Not stated on their page. Spanish is for non-admin users of the mobile app. | Not stated on their page. |
| Housecall Pro | No. "Estimates on Jobs": the page never uses the words change order; it describes selling on an ongoing job. | Field or office, from the job's details. | In person, online from an email or text, or marked approved by the pro. | Yes: finger-drawn in person. | Yes, as a manual step: Copy to Job after approval; the approved lines appear on the original job. | Not stated on their page. Spanish is for the pro's mobile app. | Not stated on their page. |
| ServiceTitan | Yes, named change order; it is an estimate on the project with a Change Order toggle. | Office: the page names accountants and office employees. Field creation is not stated on that page. | Not stated on the change-order page. | Separately, the Visit Assistant link: finger on mobile, typed on a computer; by email, a typed name only. The same page says online estimates are not accessible through it. | Yes, to the project: contract value and forecast. | Not found on the pages read. | No app or account is mentioned for the Visit Assistant link. |
| Workiz | No. A search of their help center for change order returned no article. | Field: a tech sends an estimate from the phone. | Client portal, one tap. | Yes, required for portal approvals; it cannot be turned off. | Conversion, not write-back: the approved estimate is converted to a job; their guidance is to sync the items to the job. | Not stated on their page. Language change is for the pro's mobile app. | A link-based portal, scoped to what was sent. Account: not stated on their page. |
| FieldPulse | No. The features page lists none; the signature article does not mention change orders. | Admins, team managers and service agents can request a signature on an estimate or invoice. | From the emailed document's link; a customer portal approves proposals. | Yes: draw or type; saved as a PDF under Files. | Not stated on their page. | Not stated on their page. | Not stated on their page. |
| Knowify | Yes: change order management. | Not stated on their page. | From an emailed link to an e-signature portal: accept, review or decline; or sign the attached PDF and return it. | Yes, e-signature. Drawn or typed: not stated on their page. | Yes: budgets and the billing schedule update; syncs to QuickBooks Online. | Not stated on their page. | No: a unique secure link, no login or sign-up. |
| Procore | Yes, four kinds, on contracts: client contract, commitment, funding, prime contract. | Many parties: funding source, owner, contractor, subcontractor and more. | Inside Procore, by a permissioned user, in the web app; not by email or the mobile app. | A Signature Required column; signing through a linked DocuSign account. Beyond that, not stated. | The change order is on the contract itself. | Not stated on the change-order pages. | Yes in effect: the approver is a permissioned project user. |
| Contractor Foreman | Yes: change orders and change order requests. | Not stated on their page. | Online, with electronic signatures. | Yes, electronic, with a timestamp and IP address. Signing inside their mobile app: their knowledge base asks the question; the answer was not on the page. | Yes: the contract amount updates; job costing tracks original and revised budgets. | Not stated on their page. | A client portal exists; whether an account is needed is not stated on their page. |
| ArcSite | Yes: scope, pricing and drawings. | Not stated on their page. | Clients sign on the spot or from their phone. | Yes. Type: not stated on their page. | To Jobber, drawings export as quotes; change-order sync is not stated on their page. | Not stated on their page. | Not stated on their page. |
| Joist | Yes: change orders for new work or changes mid-project. | Field: estimates sent from the driveway. | Digital signatures; the page does not tie them to change orders. | Digital. Type: not stated on their page. | Not stated on their page. | Not stated on their page. | Not stated on their page. |
| Houzz Pro | Yes. | Office and field (iOS app); not from an approved estimate on mobile. | Shared by email, link, message or SMS; the client views, approves and signs from their phone. | Yes, electronic. Type: not stated on their page. | To invoices and project budgets. | Not stated on their page. | Not stated on their page. |
| JobNimbus | None found: estimates only. | Not stated on their page. | In person on the pro's device, or by an emailed link that expires after 7 days. | Yes: type a name or draw with the pen icon, then confirm. Once signed, the estimate is locked; to change it, duplicate it. | Not stated on their page. | Not stated on their page. | Not stated on their page. |
| Volta Change Orders (for Jobber) | Yes: a numbered change order on an existing Jobber job. | The tech, on the phone at the job, by speaking or typing the change and the price. | From a text link on their own phone: the change, the price, the new job total, Approve; or Not now with a reason. | Yes: finger-drawn or a typed name, kept with the change. | Yes: one line on the job and a note with the approval record, only after approval. Nothing on the job is edited or removed. | Yes: the customer's link has an Español switch, and so does the help center. | No. No app to install, nothing to log in to. |
Two notes on reading it. A second estimate is not the same as a change order: it prices the extra work, but it becomes a second record unless something copies the approved lines onto the original job, and the customer approves the extra, not the new total. And a signature that lives on the estimate is only as durable as the estimate: on Jobber, editing an approved quote removes the signature; on JobNimbus, a signed estimate is locked and has to be duplicated to change it.
What no page in this set claims
These are absences on pages, not verdicts on products. A page that does not say something may still do it.
- Spanish for the homeowner. No page from the twelve tools states a Spanish surface for the customer. Jobber, Housecall Pro and Workiz each document Spanish for the crew-facing mobile app; the rest say nothing.
- Saying the change on the phone. No page describes the tech saying or typing the change and its price on the phone at the job. Every flow above starts from a document the pro builds first.
- Declining with a reason. Two come close: Jobber's Request Changes, which hides the quote, and Knowify's accept, review or decline. No page describes capturing the reason a customer declined a change.
Not compared, and why
- Buildertrend. Its pages could not be read by machine: every buildertrend.com address answers with a challenge page, and that challenge was not bypassed. Search summaries of its pages exist, and they are not evidence, so Buildertrend has no row.
- CoConstruct. Its own site says its transition to Buildertrend is entering its final phase, so it is not a separate tool to compare.
- Other apps on the Jobber App Marketplace. Whether the marketplace lists other change-order apps is not something a public page can see: Jobber's help page says only admin users can access App Marketplace. So this page does not say what the marketplace does or does not offer.
Where Volta Change Orders fits
It is built for one case: a mid-job change on a Jobber job, agreed on the customer's own phone and written to that job as a line and a note. It is not a contract, budget or drawing tool, and it runs only with Jobber. The product page shows the flow on both phones and the setup steps; the help center has the questions and the fixes; the free template is the same record on paper, for any shop.
